Rebelís body found

Jamshedpur, Aug. 20: West Singhbhum police recovered the body of a 24-year-old rebel from Baliba village in Kiriburu following an encounter today, while another rebel was detained at Nuagaon village in Chakradhapur after a search operation last evening.

The dead rebel was identified as Toma Gudia. However, the police would not confirm whether the detained rebel, Ranjit Gudia, had been formally arrested or not.

Ranjit, a resident of Baliba, was picked up during an ongoing operation being carried out jointly by the police and paramilitary forces in Saranda.

Five landmines, an explosives cable measuring 100m and Maoist literature was recovered from Ranjitís possession, a police officer said on condition of anonymity.

In the last 20 days of operations in Saranda region, police have arrested 13 Naxalites and recovered landmines, destroyed over 100 camps and found a large number of Maoist documents.

Meanwhile, police are yet to make any headway in the murder of headmaster of Shatrughan Aditya Middle School in Chowka. Indro Sahu (55) was gunned down by three motorcycle-borne persons at Chowka Bazaar, about 45 km away, late yesterday evening.

Chowka police station officer in charge Ram Awdhesh Singh said involvement of rebels, who had fled from Seraikela divisional jail three days back, cannot be overruled.
