Karat to reach Calcutta today

Calcutta, Aug. 19: Prakash Karat is likely to attend a two-day extended state committee meeting of the CPM’s Bengal unit that begins on Sunday to get a feel of how the party has been subjected to “terror by the Trinamul Congress’’, sources said.

The CPM general secretary would be reaching Calcutta tomorrow after the end of the one-day state committee meeting at Alimuddin Street, the sources said.

“He has attended all state committee meetings after our Assembly election defeat. The extended state committee will discuss our current position… how we have been subjected to terror at the hands of Trinamul,’’ a source said.
