Headhunters queuing up at BIT-Sindri will soon get to know candidates better, courtesy the click of a mouse.
Encouraged by an excellent placement record in the past couple of years, the tech cradle has developed a new software called Date Centre to help companies conduct the recruitment drive smoothly.
Brainchild of a group of 10 computer science engineering students and a faculty member, the software — which was readied in six months — will enable recruiters sort out data about the students listing their academic performance, interest in co-curricular activities et al.
Developed by using Java and Oracle, Data Centre is also secure from any kind of hacking threat.
Apart from the 10 students who designed Data Centre, another 10 — one each from departments of production, mechanical, mining, metallurgy, chemical, civil, electrical, electronics communication, computer science and information technology — have also been roped in to feed in information about their respective streams.
A teacher of computer science engineering department, A.G.P. Kujur, who was a part of the project, said the software was on trial for the past two to three months.
Only limited users have access to it. However, it will be launched soon.
“Earlier, we used to face a lot of difficulty in sorting out the list of students according to requirements like those who have secured more than 60 per cent of marks throughout the course, those who have done well in extracurricular activities and so on. Data Centre will also store the records of recruiters, including the number of their visits, salary packages offered and the number of students picked up by them,” Kujur said.
A student, Ravi Shekhar, said data could be entered into the system in two ways — either manually by a data entry operator or by uploading an Excel sheet.
On the security aspect, he said the audit log system would give the time or place if someone tried to log in and tamper with the displayed information.
“In case of any alteration or interference by any external user, the undo log facility would restore the original data,” Shekhar added.
