2nd leg of admissions begin

Bhubaneswar, Aug.16: The second phase of junior college admissions began today. Around 22,791 candidates have been short-listed, officials of the department of higher education (DHE) said.

Besides, nearly 5,000 students, who have already taken admission during the first round of allotment, have been sent to colleges that they listed higher in their list of preference. “Candidates are required to produce a transfer certificate from the college where they had initially taken admission. They also need to furnish their school leaving and conduct certificates,” said S.N. Mohanty, principal of BJB (Junior) College.

Although the second selection admissions will be completed on August 17, candidates who have not been able to secure their transfer certificates will be allowed three to four days’ time to produce the necessary documents, provided they sign an undertaking.

“This year, students’ names will be registered with the college in which they take final admission. Earlier, registration used to be done in the college where admission was first taken,” Mohanty said.

The DHE has also relaxed the rules and decided to allow the 6,000-odd students, who failed to enrol themselves during the first selection process, to take admission on a priority basis during these two days.

A total of 2,12,244 students have already taken admission in the first selection. The sanctioned seat strength of the 1,301 junior colleges in the state is 3,07,766. Even after the subsequent rounds of admission, more than 50,000 seats are likely to go vacant this year.

The “extension seat” list for candidates belonging to the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe categories will be published on August 22 at 11am and admission will be conducted on the same day.

Thereafter, the list for the seats that are left or spot selection admission will be announced on August 24 and the registration will begin on August 26 at 2pm.

The DHE website (www.dheorissa.in) will publish details of colleges with vacant seats. These colleges will publish the list of eligible candidates and conduct the admissions on August 27.
