Rally-bound doctor held

Midnapore, Aug. 14: A Calcutta-based doctor and a Jadavpur University researcher were arrested this afternoon in West Midnapore on way to a rally organised by the Maoist-backed People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities.

Dr Siddhartha Gupta and metallurgy researcher Abhigyan Sarkar were held at Belpahari, not far from Chakadoba village where the rally was held.

The duo attended a PCPA-organised medical camp yesterday at Patharchakri village on the Jharkhand border, police said. They have been charged with breach of peace.

PCPA supporters later demonstrated in front of Belpahari police station to protest the arrests.
