SL’s chance to topple Australia

Calcutta: Sri Lanka have a golden chance of going atop the Reliance ICC ODI Championship table for the first time in history if they manage to beat Australia by a 4-1 margin, or better, in the five-match ODI series which begins at the Pallekele International Stadium, from Wednesday.

Four-time world champions Australia, who have been holding the top spot since September 2009, currently have on 130 ratings points and lead second-placed Sri Lanka by 12 ratings points. India are at the third spot with 117 points.

However, the Lankans will take a lead of one ratings point if they win the series 4-1. A bigger reward awaits them if they win all five matches in the series as it will take them eight points clear of Australia.
