Guwahati, Aug. 9: ASEB Sports Club tamed Sunrise Athletic Club by 2-0 goals in a first leg match of the RG Baruah GSA Super Division Football League at Nehru Stadium here today.
The powermen had the upper hand throughout, handling the heavy underfoot conditions better than their opponents.
ASEB began well, creating more chances with better position play and man marking. Sunrise, too, launched a counter offensive from time to time.
The fleet-footed and agile Dipankar Sarkar, who found his groove today, scored the first goal in the 37th minute.
Three minutes later, it was the in-form Chayaram Basumatary, who ruffled the net as he tapped one off a subtle pass from Sibra Narzary.
At lemon break, the powermen were in the driver’s seat with a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw more action than goals, as ASEB threatened to increase their lead. In the 48th minute, a clinical pass from Chayaram was wasted as Dipankar’s shot was off target.
A counter attack in the 54th minute by Sunrise all but saw them reduce the margin.
The powermen missed three more open chances while Sunrise wasted two.
Meanwhile, in a high-scoring match of the Jibeswar Goswami —A— Division Football League, City Police defeated Rajbari Athletic Club 7-5.
