Clash on Parliament street

New Delhi, Aug. 9: BJP youth wing activists today reached the outer gate of Parliament in a major security breach and clashed with police during anti-government protests near Jantar Mantar.

The situation turned violent around 3.30pm when over 3,000 Yuva Morcha activists, protesting against corruption and price rise, tried to jump barricades near Jantar Mantar to force their way towards Parliament. After a baton charge, the police fired tear gas shells and used water cannons when the stone-throwing mob damaged six parked cars.

Earlier, around 2pm, some 40 activists, who said they were from Gujarat, reached the outer gate of Parliament complex meant for VIPs when the House was in session. Four of them managed to enter the high-security zone before the police removed them.

Traffic in central Delhi was paralysed for two hours as vehicles carrying BJP activists arrived from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
