Calcutta, Aug. 1: CPM leader Surjya Kanta Mishra today denied Mamata Banerjees claim that the Left government had not introduced a legislation reserving 10 per cent government jobs for OBC Muslims.
On March 23 this year, a bill on the OBC Muslim quota was introduced and passed by the House, he said.
Bolpur: Samit Roy, the Visva-Bharati professor whose alleged rebuke had led to the suicide of a student, has been barred from conducting exams for five years. Priyabrata Dass father had alleged that his son committed suicide after being humiliated by Roy for using a cellphone in the examination hall.
Calcutta: Tata Motors has told Calcutta High Court that the Singur act is unconstitutional as it has divided farmers into two categories — willing and unwilling — for disbursement of compensation. The government cannot give special treatment to a particular section of land losers by terming them unwilling, the Tatas said.
