2 garden workers dead

Alipurduar, July 31: Unnatural deaths of two tea garden workers were reported in the Dooars in the past 24 hours.

Maharani Oraon, 35, of Tasati tea estate near Falakata died when a car hit her near Jateshwar yesterday. The vehicle has been seized and the driver arrested. In another incident, Dostina Minj, 40, of Gopalpur tea estate in Birpara, committed suicide by consuming poison.


Fast off

Cooch Behar: Around 5,000 supporters of the Greater Cooch Behar Peopleís Association, who had been on a hunger strike for the past 13 days demanding a separate state of Cooch Behar, withdrew their agitation on Saturday evening. Leaders of the outfit said the fast was withdrawn after the administration assured them that a meeting would be held to discuss their demands.


Python found

Alipurduar: A 14-feet long python was rescued from a house at Dhariarhat near here on Sunday. The snake was released in the Buxa Tiger Reserve.


TTIS winners

Siliguri: St Michaelís School and Isabella School won the senior and junior categories of the TTIS Shootout soccer tournament held here on Saturday. Royal Academy and St Michaelís School were the runners-up in the senior and junior categories.
