GTC, Green Valley tied

Guwahati, July 29: Gauhati Town Club held Green Valley Sports Club to a 1-1 draw in a match of the RG Baruah GSA Super Division Football League at Nehru Stadium here today.

Maverick striker George Prince connected a corner by Green Valley skipper Sanjeeba Rongpi in the second minute of the match and raised hopes of a goal feast which, however, was not the case.

Instead, the period till the lemon break saw both teams err, as they approached the danger box.

While Green Valley had the upper hand in the match, the GTC players managed to create the odd opportunity but could not finish off their moves.

Down 0-1, African recruits Forkpe Sumo and Festus Onoriode Johnayah flattered to deceive as they missed a couple of straightforward chances.

However, in the 57th minute, the fleet-footed GTC playmaker Shyam Murah produced a flash of brilliance as he passed a through ball to Festus who did not make any mistake to draw parity. Green Valley tried hard to regain the lead after winning the battle of ball possession but, like their opponents, failed to convert the half chances.

Meanwhile, in a match of the Jibeswar Goswami A-Division Football League, Jewel Star Club held Rising XI to a 1-1 draw. Jewel Star struck first blood in the 31st minute through striker Shashanka Chanda while Rising substitute Girin Rabha drew parity two minutes before regulation time.
