Imphal, July 27: Youth Club-cum-Information Centre registered its first win over Moral Education Intellectual Renascent Athletic Association by 9-4 goals in the 2nd Super Six Hockey Manipur Trophy, 2011 played at the Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium here today.
Needing a win to stay in the league, Youth Club put up quite a performance against the Moral team, which is on a downslide with two consecutive defeats.
The Youth Club team gave an energetic performance in the first half, with Y. Chandra Singh striking home a field goal in the 12th minute.
Youth Club netted another goal in the 14th minute off Y. Holendro Singh’s stick, while veteran N. Priyo Singh swept in two more (22nd and 24th minutes). Y. Holendro upped his tally to two in the 26th minute, making the score 5-0.
The Moral boys came back to life in the 32nd minute following a penalty corner conversion by Borish Singh.
In the second half, despite desperate attempts by the Moral boys to make a comeback, they had to be content with three more goals, and the Youth Club boys fired in three more to bring the tally to 9-4 at the final whistle.
Powerlifting
Powerlifter Kh. Sayarani Devi, who will represent India in the 6th Asian Bench Press Powerlifting Championship 2011 at Taiwan from August 12-14, was awarded Rs 50,000 by Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai Youth and Social Club .
