Girl’s body found in Barpeta pond
Barpeta: The body of a young girl was recovered from a pond at Dakshin Ganakguri under Sorbhog police station on Sunday morning. The girl, Debajani Das, 20, a resident of Sorbhog went missing on Saturday and her body was found floating in the pond about one-and-half kilometres from her residence. Police said the girl was mentally disturbed and suspected that she was raped and murdered. The body has been sent for post-mortem to a hospital here.
Jorhat: Police seized a mini truck carrying a consignment of food articles from Kumargaon village in Majuli on Sunday. The food articles, meant to be distributed among flood victims, were being illegally shifted to a shop.
Kokrajhar: The Burlungbuthur Publication Board brought out an English quarterly magazine Bibungthi-the Opinion from Kokrajhar. The magazine was released at a programme yesterday at the PWD guest house here.
Price hike protest
Guwahati: The Consumer’s Legal Protection Forum, a city-based NGO, on Sunday opposed the government’s decision to hike the price of diesel, domestic LPG and kerosene. The forum demanded an immediate roll back of the decision as the recent price hike was “a big blow to the people”.
Imphal (PTI): A bomb exploded in the office of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) in Ukhrul district on Saturday night but no casualty was reported, official sources said on Sunday.
