Calcutta, July 23: Residents blocked the VIP Road, which leads to the airport, for about 45 minutes from 9.45pm tonight to protest a robbery at a car showroom, causing a traffic snarl.

Blood banks

Calcutta: The state government has decided to set up 14 blood banks, including one in Salt Lake. Most of the blood banks will come up in remote areas.

Tea threat

Siliguri: Around 30 trade unions, including Citu and Intuc, have threatened to launch week-long demonstrations in front of 250 tea gardens in the Dooars and the Terai if their demand for increased wages is not accepted.
