ATM fire
Smoke started coming out of an AC installed in an ATM kiosk of Indian Overseas Bank at Majerhat around 6pm on Thursday. Four tenders took 30 minutes to bring the situation under control. “After Wednesday’s fire in New Market, we did not want to take any chance. Four tenders were despatched along with breathing apparatus,” said a fire department officer.
Injured
A 52-year-old trader was seriously injured when bombs exploded near his house at Natagar near Sodepur on Thursday. Police said Sukur Ali Mondal was entering the house when the bombs, kept in a bush near the entrance, exploded.
Seized
Police seized computer parts, toners and cartridges bearing fake labels of reputable brands, worth over Rs 5 lakh, during a raid on a godown on Jamunalal Bajaj Street in Burrabazar on Wednesday. The man who ran the godown was arrested.
Clash
Four men were injured in a clash between Trinamul Congress supporters and CPM activists in Barasat on Thursday. According to police, trouble broke out when some goons tried to stop some Trinamul activists from going to the Brigade rally. Police had to lathicharge to control the situation.
