Easy day for seeds

Guwahati, July 19: The seeds had it easy on Day II of the OIL-AITA Super Series (under-12 and under-16) Tennis Championship at Chachal tennis complex here today.

In boys’ under-16 second round, Fatehdeep Singh of Punjab, ranked fourth, overcame a fight from qualifier Iciraibe Salie of Nagaland 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-1.

Qualifier Archis Borthakur of Assam lost to 35th-ranked Vishu Prasad of Delhi 4-6, 1-6. Teammate Bijay Kumar Mohanty bit the dust against Tamil Nadu’s S.D. Prajwal Dev 5-7, 1-6. Assam lad Saidul Islam succumbed to Vignesh Prabhu of Tamil Nadu 0-6, 0-6. Rahul Manuah of Tamil Nadu defeated Jharkhand’s Eklavya Singh 6-2, 6-2 while Ayush Mintri of Punjab got a walkover against wildcard entry Ishan Sagal.

In the boys’ under-12 round, Assam lad Arith Bhuyan outclassed Harshit Yadav of Delhi 4-2, 4-2 and Ronit Bora defeated Pelesetso Khate of Nagaland 4-1, 4-2.

In the girls’ under-12 category, Rutvi Shah of Gujarat beat Tamil Nadu’s Amitha Siva 2-4, 4-1, 4-1 while 11th ranked Lalita Devarkonda of Andhra Pradesh blanked wild card entry Ishika Gupta of Bengal. Zeel Gandhi of Gujarat beat Assam’s Natasha Baruah 0-4, 0-4. Shreya Dutta, Shrestha Baruah, Bhumika Gupta and Jubhee Saikia lost by similar margins.
