Dilip Bar, 43, a trader from Howrah, was arrested at the city airport on Monday for allegedly carrying a bullet in his hand baggage. Bar claimed he intended to make an amulet with the bullet. He was to catch a SpiceJet flight to Delhi.
Police found a six-chamber revolver and 12 rounds of ammunition in a cupboard in the staff quarters of Surendranath College in Sealdah on Monday. The revolver belonged to Raju Dey, a clerk in the accounts department of the college, said police. Dey was accused of siphoning off funds a few months ago and has been absconding since then.
A 30-year old man was beaten up by a mob after he was caught snatching a gold chain from the neck of a woman in Sonarpur on Monday.

Pravrajika Medhaprana of Sri Sarada Math, Dakshineswar, died of cardio-respiratory failure at Sri Sarada Math, Thrissur, on Sunday. The 91-year-old was a disciple of Swami Virajanandaji Maharaj, the sixth president of Ramakrishna Math and Mission. She had joined the order in 1939.
