Hyderabad , July 17: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has undertaken a project to lay transmission lines with 800kV transformers from Shillong to Agra for the evacuation of 6,000MW of hydel power per day.
The transmission corridor, which will run 2,000 circuit km, will cost Rs 1,200 crore and be commissioned by 2014, S.K. Chaturvedi, chairman and managing director of Power Grid Corporation, said on the sidelines of an event here today.
Chaturvedi said the corporation will also set up nine transmission corridors at a cost of Rs 58,000 crore by 2015-16.
We aim to raise the funds from the ADB, World Bank, bonds, suppliers credit and internal resources for this project, he said.
He said the northeast transmission corridor would help in the evacuation of 6,000MW of hydel power generated in two units in Bhutan.
Chaturvedi, who received the countrys first 330kVA and 1,200kV transformer, indigenously manufactured by the Hyderabad-based Vijay Electricals, said the device would be put to test at the corporations earth station at Bina in Madhya Pradesh over a 1.6 km line for one year.
The power transformers manufactured by Bhel and the C&G will also be tested at this yard, he said adding that 32 indigenous makers of transformers will be involved in the testing.
Chaturvedi said PowerGrid had projected a capital expenditure of Rs 1 lakh crore for the Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012-17) against Rs 37,400 crore in the Eleventh Plan.
