Representatives from the Sector V industry’s forum, Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority and Webel will meet on Thursday to discuss water supply issues in the tech hub.
Webel issued a notice last week threatening to stop drawing ground water in Sector V from July 1.
“More time is needed for the companies and organisations to make their own arrangements. A sudden disruption could hamper normal activities in the tech hub,” said S. Radhakrishnan, the president of Sector V stakeholder’s association.
In a public notice issued in January, extraction of groundwater was forbidden in the township. It became mandatory for all industries to obtain water and sewerage service connections from Nabadiganta Water Management Limited (NDWML).
Water charges were to be calculated on the basis of consumption and requirement at the rate of Rs 10 per square foot. Owners of only 32 of 240 plots in the command area have reached an agreement with the NDWML. Some are in the process of finalising agreements.
