Molest slur on CRPF men

Ranchi, June 27: Two CRPF personnel have been arrested in the capital for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl.

In the incident that took place around 4.30pm today, constable Sushil Kumar and havildar Gurwinder Singh of the 134th battalion allegedly molested the Class VI student when she boarded the auto-rickshaw they were in near Rajendra Chowk. The girl was on her way home to Doranda.

The jawans made the girl sit in the middle and soon started making lewd gestures. The frightened girl got down near the roundabout at Sector II of HEC Township and started walking, only to have the two men follow her. Sensing trouble, the girl raised an alarm and had people rushing to her rescue.

The crowd roughed up the two jawans, both posted at Palamau, before handing them over to the Jagannnathpur police.

Deputy superintendent of police (Hatia) Rajeev Ranjan confirmed the arrests and said the two will be sent to jail tomorrow as the allegations against them were serious.

When contacted by The Telegraph, commandant of CRPF’s 134th battalion A.K. Minj said he was conducting an operation and had no idea about the incident.

The CPRF personnel in their defence said they were being falsely implicated.

“I am 45-years-old and suffer from epilepsy. I came to RINPAS for treatment. We are staying at the CRPF camp close to where the girl got down. I did not molest her but fell on her because of an epilepsy attack,” a police official quoted Singh as saying.
