Dumka, June 27: AVBP activists seeking the removal of Deoghar-based AS College’s principal Nageswar Sharma created a ruckus during the syndicate meeting of Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) here today.
Sharma is a syndicate member against whom the ABVP brought charges of funds misappropriation a fortnight ago. The complaint to the varsity administration alleged that the funds were meant for the welfare of the student community.
With the university administration failing to act against Sharma, the ABVP cadres took the syndicate meeting as the opportunity to air their grievances. They started by shouting slogans outside the chamber of vice chancellor M. Basheer Ahmad Khan, the venue of the meeting.
When the ruckus made it impossible for the meeting to continue, the vice-chancellor suggested moving the venue to his home office, but the protesters landed up there too.
What aggravated matters was the decision of senior Congress leader and syndicate member Furkan Ansari to call in NSUI activists to take on the ABVP cadres.
According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the NSUI members arrived at the vice chancellor’s home, the play turned into a virtual battlefield. University officials were forced to call in the police to disperse the violent students.
The varsity administration and the ABVP cadres have registered complaints against each other.
