Victory for Talukdar

Assam’s Arkashish Talukdar beat Bengal’s Richie Agarwal in the U-18 Boys’ singles quarter finals of the DKS AITA Championship Series 2011, held at the red clay courts of Dakshin Kalikata Sansad. The final will be played on Friday.

Gesture

In a fine gesture, sports photographer Suman Chattopadhyay raised Rs 1 lakh through an auction of his work to help the family of Mumbai-based investigative journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, who was shot dead on June 11. A photograph of the triumphant Indian cricket team after their World Cup victory fetched Rs 1 lakh. Two other photographs, both of which had Sachin Tendulkar as the subject, were also sold and the proceedings would be given to the chief minister’s relief fund.
