Cuffs on wife over Tamluk murder

Tamluk, June 22: A 26-year-old woman was among three persons arrested last night over the alleged murder of her husband in Tamluk.

The other two are the dead chit fund executive’s nephew and his friend.

The body of Sambhu Kapat, 32, was found in his rented flat on Sunday, hanging from a ceiling fan.

“Even though it was made to look like a suicide, police learnt from the post-mortem report that Sambhu was first smothered to death and then hanged,” Ashok Prasad, the district superintendent of police, said.

The police began interrogations and arrested Sambhu’s wife Shampa, his nephew, Biswajit Das, 19, and their neighbour Rabin Biswas, 18, from Sambhu’s ancestral home in Habra, North 24-Parganas, last night. Biswajit and Rabin are Class X students.

Biswajit and Rabin have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime.

“Biswajit and Shampa were having an affair. Biswajit told us that Sambhu had found out about the affair a year ago and since then, Shampa had been planning the murder,” a police officer said.
