Suresh Tendulkar is dead
Mumbai, June 21: Eminent economist and former chairman of the Prime Minister’s economic advisory council, Suresh D. Tendulkar, died in Pune of cardiac arrest this morning. He was 72. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the country had lost one of its most eminent economists. “His work on poverty was path-breaking and will continue to guide and inspire the coming generations of economists,” Singh said. He was also a member of the central board of directors of the Reserve Bank of India.
Tata firm IPO
Mumbai, June 21: The Tata group-promoted Tata AutoComp Systems today said its Rs 750-crore initial public offering was likely to hit the market in the next two weeks. The automobile components manufacturer had filed its draft prospectus with Sebi in December.
Mumbai, June 21: Fertiliser manufacturer Zuari Industries Ltd has raised its stake in Nagarjuna Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd (NFCL) and Texmaco through open market transactions. While Zuari increased its share in NFCL to 6.66 per cent, the stake in Texmaco was raised to 4.95 per cent.
New Delhi, June 21: The introduction of big-ticket tax reforms through GST seems unlikely from April with the BJP-ruled states stating that they would not like to be reduced to “municipality or corporations”.
