Hazaribagh, June 20: After the generosity of the rain god, comes the curse.
The district, which witnessed close to 80mm of rainfall till yesterday, is now trying to control a diarrhoea outbreak with nearly 95 residents having already visited Hazaribagh sadar hospital in the past 48-hours with symptoms of the disease.
The sadar hospital, which was accorded the status of a regional hospital last year due to the steady flow of patients, however, has cut a sorry figure, with hospital employees already claiming that the centre was running low on medicines.
“The doctor on duty prescribed medicines and asked us to purchase them from a retail medicine outlet,” alleged a patient’s relative, who had made their way to the hospital from Chanho village.
However, Alakh Dev Narayan Prasad, who took over the reigns from B. Narayan as the new civil surgeon here today, put up a brave face and promised to salvage the situation.
“All possible measures to tackle cases of diarrhoea will be taken. I will personally ensure that the patients suffering from the disease receive proper treatments and have access to all necessary medicines,” Prasad told The Telegraph.
He added that special teams had been constituted in various blocks of the district to keep a tab on the situation and check the spread of the disease.
“I took charge today only and hope to normalise the situation in the hospital. I have already passed several instructions in this regard,” he said.
