The Hidco authorities have decided to lay pipes along the Bagjola canal to bring water directly from the Hooghly to Rajarhat, said housing minister Shyamapada Mukherjee on Thursday.
The water will be purified at a plant in Rajarhat.
A report has been submitted to the chief minister in this regard, said Mukherjee. “We will start work once the CM approves of it,” he added.
The earlier plan was to route the untreated water through the Chitpur and lower Bagjola canals. That would have exposed the water to contamination, said a Hidco official.
