Calcutta, June 1: Writers’ sources said the Congress’ five ministerial candidates were Pramathanath Ray, Abu Naser Khan Chowdhury, Manoj Chakraborty, Sunil Chandra Trikey and Sabina Yasmin. They will be sworn in at 4.15pm on Friday.

Krishnagar: A 22-year-old Nadia youth allegedly committed suicide after being accused of abducting a Class XII student, confining her in a room for 14 days and marrying her at gunpoint.

Burdwan: Trinamul and Congress leaders in Burdwan have demanded immediate re-election to the Left-run Durgapur Municipal Corporation and the Burdwan municipality on the ground that it has lost the “moral right” to run the civic bodies after the drubbing in the Assembly polls.

Clarification

In the article by S.M. Murshed on the bureaucracy in Bengal in the edition dated May 21, the word “babus” in the headline ‘How to avoid politicisation of babus’ was used by the newspaper and not by the author.
