Kokrajhar, May 31: Security forces rescued a 72-year-old dairy farm owner, who was kidnapped by suspected NDFB (anti-talks) rebels on Saturday from his dairy farm at Sonapur in Guwahati, from Lailongpara under Routa police station in Udalguri district yesterday.
Acting on a tip, a joint team of Udalguri police and 315 Field Regiment (Kargil) cordoned off the area in Lailongpara and rescued Goluram Gogoi from the clutches of the kidnappers.
The kidnappers had demanded Rs 50 lakh for his release.
“The abductors had brought Gogoi to Udalguri after kidnapping him from where the ransom demands were made,” said a senior army officer.
Based on the investigations, the police and army narrowed down the location of the kidnappers and launched an operation.
Gogoi was found unharmed and in good health, a senior army officer in Udalguri said.
He was kidnapped at gunpoint by a gang of three or four youths from his dairy farm.
One person has been arrested in this connection.
