Beacon check

New Delhi, May 29 (PTI): Delhi police will launch a drive from June 1 to check the unauthorised use of beacon lights on vehicles.

The police have noticed that some government officials and politicians flaunt red beacons on their cars though they are not entitled to use them. During the drive they would check government vehicles to ensure that only the officials entitled to beacons use them. They are also looking for unauthorised use of such lights in private vehicles.

Burglary

Indore (PTI): The house of Kantilal Bhuria, the Union minister of tribal affairs, was burgled on Sunday, police said. Two LCD televisions, cash and other gadgets were stolen. The estimate of the loss is yet to be ascertained.

Adhir home

Behrampore: Two men were arrested on Sunday for trying to enter Murshidabad Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury’s house. Mozammel Haque and Kabirul Islam hit the entrance gate with their motorcycle and tried to flee when guards chased them. A psychiatrist’s prescription was found in Haque’s pocket. Adhir was not at home at the time of the incident.

Cheating case

Bangalore (PTI): A Nigerian has been arrested for allegedly cheating people of lakhs of rupees through an e-lottery racket and promising them loans from overseas banks, police said.

Fishermen

Chennai (PTI): The coast guard (eastern) region apprehended 10 Sri Lankan fishermen and two Lankan fishing boats on Saturday night for illegally entering in Indian waters. The boats were seized near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, an official release said.

Teacher dead

Tamluk: The secretary of an East Midnapore club died after being allegedly beaten up by some of its members when he protested their playing loud music in a drunken frenzy late on Saturday night. Schoolteacher Manmohan Kuiti, 44, suffered injuries in his head. Four youths have been arrested.
