The state urban development department has proposed the setting up of a centralised water treatment plant to supply filtered water to six municipal areas north of the city.
The municipalities are South Dum Dum, Baranagar, Kamarhati, Titagarh, Barrackpore and North Barrackpore.
An estimated 50 acres are needed to build the plant. The state government, sources said, will approach each of the chairpersons to offer the land. Urban development minister Firhad Hakim has convened a meeting with the six chairpersons on Monday.
Minister’s health: The condition of finance minister Amit Mitra has improved. On Sunday, Mitra was shifted from the intensive therapy unit to a cabin. Doctors said he was still feeling uneasy and that antibiotics had been administered. Mitra had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday with acute abdominal pain. The diagnosis was colitis.
