One of the best-dressed women in the world is 5 years old!

SURI CRUISE

She wore lipstick at age three, stepped out in high heels at four and has a wardrobe worth millions at five. A recent poll has placed Suri Cruise 21st on the year’s best dressed list. The five-year-old — whose celebrity parents Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes splurge $3 million a year on her clothes — beat the likes of Beyonce and Sarah Jessica Parker, with the poll crowning her the celebrity with the “most coveted wardrobe in Hollywood”! Mom Katie failed to make the list. The pint-sized fashionista, whose parents get her clothes custom-made from every top label, is a designer’s delight. On any given day, Suri sports Burberry jackets, Armani or Roberto Cavalli shift dresses, Ray-Ban sunglasses and Christian Louboutin heels, while toting around a Marc Jacobs bag. The Suri Cruise fashion blog files away details of each and every piece of clothing the little girl wears. Her collection of shoes — 130 pairs and counting! What’s more, Suri doesn’t repeat her clothes and is her actress mother’s fiercest critic. “She’ll really tell me (what she thinks). Like today I’m wearing brown suede pants and she said, ‘I don’t like your pants’.” All this at age five!

maddox jolie-pitt

He is credited with singlehandedly bringing the mohawk back into fashion. Maddox, the 10-year-old first-adopted of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has an eclectic style sense that can give any adult a complex. Sharing dad Brad’s taste for skull caps and fast cars, Maddox is often seen sporting crisp white shirts teamed with linen trousers and colourful scarves. He even rocks the man bag like no other!

kingston rossdale

Popstar Gwen Stefani’s son sported a mohawk while he was still in his diapers. Since then, Kingston has worked super-sized glares, skinny jeans, racer-back tees and knee-high boots. His latest look? Geeky glasses with his hair pulled back in a ponytail and a ear stud. He’s not five yet.

WILLOW SMITH

As individualistic in her style as her older brother Jaden, nine-year-old Willow is a super-confident fashionista who doesn’t fight shy of aping the latest style trends — and setting some of her own. Willow’s over-the-top rocker chic look — complete with a Rihanna-inspired haircut and skin-tight studded jeans — makes her stand out in a crowd. With head-to-toe leopard-print outfits, a daring girl-mohawk and sneakers that lace up like pants, Willow is a style icon. At nine, she already has a stylist — Mariel Haenn, best known for styling pop sensation Rihanna.

JADEN SMITH

The 12-year-old son of actor Will Smith has a distinctive and edgy sense of fashion. With his skinny jeans, studded vests, bomber jackets and meticulously styled hair, the actor-rapper-songwriter and dancer, who impressed with his turn in films like The Pursuit of Happyness and the recent Karate Kid, makes style gurus sit up and take notice with every appearance. Little wonder then that Jaden — alongwith sister Willow — is all set to launch his own fashion line this year.

MATILDA LEDGER

A spitting image of her late father Heath Ledger, five-year-old Matilda often makes it to the fashion pages. Very girlie in style, Matilda’s shoe collection — she is partial to designer moccasins and flashy sneakers — is reportedly the envy of many a Hollywood fashionista. Whether it is colourful sun-dresses or heavy cashmere jackets, Michelle Williams’s daughter has an individual style, making her one of the most fashion-forward celebrity kids.

aryan & suhana khan

In Bollywood, it can’t get more stylish than Shah Rukh Khan’s kids Aryan and Suhana. While Aryan, 14, turns heads with his spiked hair and cool message tees, his 10-year-old sister — who looks a lot like dad SRK but has inherited mom Gauri’s fashion sense — looks equally chic in party gowns and distressed jeans.

violet affleck

Her accessories — from colourful rimmed sunglasses to cute neckpieces — are to die for. Holly stars Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have a style maven at home in the form of five-year-old daughter Violet. Casual and chic, Violet’s sense of style is very girlie and very colourful. Mum Jennifer has even gone on record to say that she takes her style cues from Violet!

SHILOH JOLIE-PITT

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s four-year-old is fond of tomboy fashion and has emerged as a style inspiration for many — even some who are four times her age. Partial to fedoras and ties, Shiloh is often spotted in chic tracksuits and has been sporting a cropped head of hair recently. “I have a very strong-willed four-year-old girl who tells me what she wants to wear and I let her be who she is…” mum Jolie has been quoted as saying.

LOURDES LEON

‘Who’s that girl?’ went everyone when 14-year-old Lourdes walked a pre-Oscar party red carpet with mom Madonna. Already a headturner for her funky and irreverent style of dressing, Lourdes knows how to layer, pulls off hippie headbands and sports printed leggings, colourful sneakers and glasses, chain jewellery and leather jackets. Bold and unpredictable in her style choices, Lourdes partners Madonna in her Material Girl fashion line. At 12, she had her own fashion blog.

ROMEO BECKHAM

Earlier this year, Romeo — the second-born of style icons David and Victoria Beckham — made his debut at number 26 on GQ’s annual best dressed list. At eight, Romeo, who often dresses like his dad, is being hailed as the heir to the Brand Beckham fashion throne. With a style that is more man than boy, Romeo is often spotted wearing perfectly tailored suits in ‘adult’ colours like charcoal grey and camel brown. A tour of Romeo’s closet would also throw up an envious assortment of sunglasses. He has already signed a deal to create his own range of shades for kids under the name RB!

move over suri cruise, say hello to these city fashionistas...

Ashmita (8) and Yuvika (4) Dahiya

Spotted shopping at: South City Mall.

“I love lehngas and I want to buy jeans for my birthday. Katrina Kaif is my favourite actress because she is so stylish and looks nice in everything she wears!” said Ashmita, sporting denim shorts and a red Reebok tee to go with her red bag.

“Pink is my favourite colour!” chirped Yuvika, showing off her pink rucksack and floaters.

Vintii (8) and Prarthana (4) Rohira

Spotted shopping at: Forum.

“Though I am wearing a checked jumpsuit, I am more into hot pants and Hannah Montana T-shirts. I don’t like wearing jewellery. I always choose my own clothes,” said Vintii. “I like to wear fairy frocks, rings and Disney hairbands. But in summer my mummy makes me wear cotton frocks,” added Prarthana, in a cool white-and-black polka frock.

Vedika Bhuwani, 5

Spotted shopping at: Little Shop, Mani Square.

“I love Barbie dresses. The ones in pink are my favourite. If I wear denim, it is only hot pants in blue. I love Barbie and Doraemon clips. They are very pretty,” said Vedika, with a Barbie hairbrush set in hand.

Niharika Agarwal, 4

Spotted shopping at: Little Shop, Mani Square.

“I love to wear anything in pink, like Dora. For the evenings, I love wearing gowns. I am going to dress like a princess on my birthday, just like the Little Mermaid!” said Niharika. She picked up a wand and tiara for herself.

Model Nayanika Chatterjee on eight-year-old daughter Nayantara’s style statement

So far, Nayantara has only had her say in a few dresses that she wanted to buy. I pick up most of the stuff when she is not around. But we do go out together and if she likes something which I feel is affordable, I say okay.

The influence from outside is very strong on kids nowadays. When I used to get ready for shows, she too used to dab some make-up. She is highly opinionated. She loves wearing spaghetti tops, short dresses and long gowns.

Considering the profession I belong to, I will never discourage her fashion sensibility. I give her a chance to voice her opinion, but it is not always that I follow it. You have to make sure that even though your kid may have an opinion, it should not come in the way of decision-making at this point. But it is going to happen sooner or later, as this generation is so ahead of us. Parents have no control over what is shown on television. There were Hannah Montana stickers and then there were Hannah Montana posters, and those posters had Hannah Montana in 20 different outfits. So, Tara is looking at me and asking, do you like this dress and do you like that dress? I don’t want to discourage her. She may be a designer, you never know!

Mahikah Malik, 11

Spotted shopping at: Kidology, Brocade, in Baid Boulevard.

“I believe in being simple and elegant. I love wearing shorts and tees during the day and short dresses in the evening. I also think accessorising completes a look. I love bracelets, watches and clips. I have a lot of Barbie, Dora and Hannah Montana tees. My favourite colours are navy blue and white,” said Mahikah, all colour-coordinated in blue denim shorts, blue shrug and blue pumps.

...and some cool dudes who know their formals from their casuals

Shashank Jain, 9

Spotted shopping at: United Colors of Benetton (kids), Forum.

“I am shopping for a birthday party and I want a layered look, like a semi-formal shirt and a waistcoat. I don’t like loose-fitted clothes. I like slim-fit pants, shirts, jackets, coats. I never wear shorts. I love dressing up like Salman Khan,” said Shashank, posing for t2 in his new buys.

Designer Abhishek Dutta on four-year-old son Aaryansh’s style statement

DJ (Aaryansh) is currently into Ben 10. He likes dressing up like Ben in tees, complete with the watch, and then mouths dialogues from the cartoon series. Sometimes DJ gets into his Spider-Man costume that we got him from Dubai and jumps from sofas, trying out Spidey moves.... DJ loves dressing up. He likes pink. He has this pink linen jacket and he carries it off pretty well! He likes experimenting with jodhpurs, bandhgalas and digital-printed shirts. He knows the difference between a jacket and a waistcoat. DJ also matches his Crocs with his outfits.

Kushagra Jain, 4

Spotted shopping at: United Colors of Benetton (kids), Forum.

“I only wear shirts and trousers... and watches and belts. Hot pants are for little girls! I always wear a belt. Nahin toh main Dabangg Dabangg kaise karoonga like Salman Khan?” asked Kushagra. Denims pants, check shirt, formal black shoes and a black belt made up Kushagra’s killer looks.

Tanish Dhar, 4

Spotted shopping at: Little Shop, South City Mall.

“I like to wear shorts and T-shirts. I like Salman Khan’s style,” said Tanish, riding a bike.
