Guwahati, May 15: Anchit Talukdar and Marisha Dutta clinched double crowns on the concluding day of the 18th All-Guwahati Open Junior Tennis Championship at the North East Tennis Foundation courts at Dispur here today.

In the final of the boys’ under-18 category, Anchit Talukdar had to sweat it out before getting the better of Aditya Phukan 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

In an evenly contested game that saw both finalists save the best for last, the match turned when Anchit broke Aditya’s serve at a crucial juncture late in the third set.

Earlier, Aditya made a superb comeback in the second set and looked good in the third set as well.

The girls’ under-18 final, however, did not go to the wire as top seed Marisha Dutta had it easy against unseeded Rizuwana Begum 6-4, 6-0.

In the mixed doubles final, Anchit and Marisha took their good formin their individual matches and combined well to outplay the tandem of Rizuwana and Saidul Islam 6-3, 6-4 for the title.

In the boys’ under 14 final, top seed Saidul Islam outplayed second seed Aditya Phukan 6-3, 6-2, while in the girls’ under-14 final, Priyana Kalita defeated Maitry Phukan 6-3, 7-5.

In the boys’ under 12 final, Tothagot T. Gogoi had a cakewalk against Arith Bhuyan. Tothagot defeated Arith 6-1, 6-3.

In the boys’ under-10 final, Anshuman Phukan outsmarted Anurag Buragohain 4-2, 4-2.

A total of 120 players (both boys and girls) in the under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-18 categories had taken part in the tournament.

Referees confirmed

The Assam Football Association has confirmed Prasad Rabha, Jehirul Islam and Ripunath Gogoi as Class II provisional referees of the Guwahati Sports Association (GSA).

The AFA also declared Jitumani Das, Mridul Das, Bichitrajit Das, Basudev Barman, Sahjan Ali Mandal, Abdul Mutalib Ali, Anil Kalita, Munindra Choudhury and Dhrubajyoti Kalita as Class III provisional referees of GSA.
