Kidnappers arrested
wo men — Goutam Biswas and Sanjay Mandal — were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping two private firm employees who had come to Calcutta from Delhi. ipak Sharma and Dinesh Gosai, joint directors of Max Balaji Group Limited, had been kidnapped from Baidyabati in Hooghly on May 9 and released after Rs 10 lakh was paid as ransom. Police chased the kidnappers’ car after they released the duo near CIT Road crossing and caught them.
Bombs hurled:
Unidentified men hurled bombs at Trinamul Congress offices in Shyampukur and Titagarh on Thursday evening. Two Trinamul workers were injured when six bike-borne men threw bombs at the Titagarh office around 8.30pm, said witnesses. Trinamul supporters blocked BT Road for an hour from 9pm to protest the attack. None was injured in Shyampukur.
Accident:
Three men — Mukul Chakrabarty, 60, Umashankar Banerjee, 50, and Bidyut Banerjee, 52, died in Jagaddal on Wednesday night after the truck they were travelling in hit a tree and turned turtle.
Seized:
Four elephant tusks were seized by customs officers at the city airport on Thursday morning. The tusks, worth around Rs 25 lakh, were headed for Nepal.
