Suicide attempt
May 10:
Kalyan Kalita, a contractor, 38, allegedly shot at himself with his licensed pistol at his Uzan Bazar residence under mysterious circumstances today. Police said he was admitted to the GMCH.
Accident
A ragpicker, aged around 50, was run over by a truck bearing registration number AS-01-F-9473 at Narengi on Tuesday afternoon. A mob roughed up truck driver Raj Mohan Singh and partially damaged the vehicle. Singh was later arrested by police and the truck seized.
AASU gherao
AASU activists on Tuesday gheraoed the Railway Recruitment Board at Guwahati railway station in Paltan Bazar, demanding 100 per cent reservation for indigenous youths in B and C category jobs of the NF Railways.

Dhubri:
An NDFB cadre, Hasad Basumtrary, and three NDFB linkmen, Sankar Basumatary, Pratap Basumatary, and Swamdwn Narzary, were held by 19 Madras Regiment from Besor village of Chirang district on Tuesday. A 9mm pistol, a country-made pistol, a Chinese grenade, ammunition and five extortion notes were found on them.
