Citizens cry for revenue official

Sambalpur, April 26: Residents of Sambalpur today staged a demonstration under the banner of Sambalpur Nagrik Kalyan Samiti demanding the posting of a regular revenue divisional commissioner (RDC) for the northern division.

The post of RDC (northern division) has been lying vacant since February 2010. After the retirement of Jamil Ahemad Khan, the RDC (central division) has been assigned the additional charge.

Earlier, Sambalpur Sangram Samiti had gheraoed the RDC office with the same demand.

“The post has been lying vacant since February 2010 and developmental work in this region has virtually come to a standstill,” said Arabinda Mohapatra, a resident of Sambalpur and an agitator.

“We have demanded for a regular RDC several times, but the government has been indifferent to our demand. The Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) meeting are being affected due to the absence of a regular RDC. Cases related to land and industries are also lying unresolved,” he added.

Pramod Rath, president of Sambalpur Bar Association said: “The RDC office is like a court and as it has been lying vacant, the number of pending cases has increased.”

“As the RDC (central division) has been given the additional charge of northern division, he is giving only a few days to this division every month and the cases in this division remain indisposed,” Rath added.

“There are lot of industries around Sambalpur. Bhusan Steel Ltd has proposal an expansion. The construction work of Aditya Alumina is under process. As there are industries, it is obvious that the people of this locality are facing a lot of problems in this connection. But it is unfortunate that the administration has failed to conduct a single meeting of the Rehabilitation and Periphery Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) in the last one year,” said Bhagwat Nanda, a citizen of Sambalpur.

Pradipta Mohapatra, RDC (central division) assured that he would take the matter to the notice of the government. “Though I have been assigned additional charge, the disposal of cases has not been affected,” he said.

“RPDAC meetings have been conducted in all the districts of the division and the meeting would be conducted in Sambalpur soon,” he added.
