Cuttack, April 22: A youth had a narrow escape when some hoodlums fired at him near Jobra today, police said. The cause behind the incident was rivalry, a police source said.
The incident occurred around 6.30am when Amiya Ranjan Behera (22) was on his way back home at Mallaha Sahi. Five armed hoodlums fired at Behera, who sustained minor injuries near his ribs. “I was returning home after taking a bath in the Mahanadi river. Five youths had gathered near Jobra Durga chhak. Suddenly, they fired three rounds at me,” said Behera. Police suspect that Behera, who works with his father’s small garage, was attacked as he had a dispute with a few youths in the area.
“Both Muna and Kalia attacked me during Holi and I had even registered a complaint with the Malgodown police. They used to threaten me with dire consequences if I did not withdraw the complaint,” he said. Behera had been rushed to S.C.B Hospital where medical tests were conducted. “I am lucky that my son has escaped unhurt,” said Sujata Behera, Amiya’s mother. The hoodlums were absconding. However, a case had been registered and investigation was on, police said.
