Ranchi, April 19: There is good news for those who want to pursue higher studies in law.
Ranchi-based National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) has invited applications for admissions in three new programmes — four-year integrated PhD, three-year integrated Doctor of Juridical Sciences leading to an LLM and PhD degree and two-year PhD programme.
The four-year integrated PhD programme is an eight-semester course, which would prepare LLB or graduates of relevant disciplines with honours in the subject in which they want to pursue his/her PhD. The student must garner minimum 55 per cent marks in aggregate or equivalent grade point in the qualifying examination.
The three-year integrated studies leading to a degree of Doctor of Juridical Sciences (LLM & PhD) is a six-semester course wherein the first three semesters will consist of course work along with studies in specialisation. The fourth semester will be devoted to dissertation while the fifth and sixth semesters will be for preparation and submission of PhD thesis. Eligibility criteria would be an LLB from a recognised university with a minimum of 55 per cent marks or equivalent grades.
The two-year PhD programme would comprise four-semesters. Students would be required to be on campus as resident for a minimum of 60 days. The minimum eligibility criteria is postgraduate in concerned discipline from an Indian or foreign university with at least 55 per cent marks in aggregate or equivalent grades.
Speaking to The Telegraph, NUSRL’s dean (faculty) Alok Gupta said they expected a good response for the highly specialised courses. “Students of disciplines other than law can also apply for the specialised programmes. We will assess the applications,” he said.
The varsity would hold an entrance tests to shortlist/enrol students in different postgraduate programmes while those who have already cleared UGC’s JRF/NET will directly appear for group discussion and interview.
Meanwhile, the process of admission in the basic BA (Hons) LLB (Hons) five-year integrated programme at NUSRL would start by the third week of May. The students would be admitted only through the all India Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) which is scheduled on May 15, with results expected on May 28. Notably, 50 per cent of total seats in the dual programme is reserved for students belonging to Jharkhand.
Meanwhile, NUSRL has also been facing the problem of inadequate infrastructures at its temporary campus near BIT-Mesra.
In its inception year, the varsity admitted as many as 46 students — 23 boys and girls each — in its basic BA (Hons) LLB (Hons) courses while it aims to admit a batch of 150 students in the basic programme for the 2011 academic session slated to start from June-July this year.
