The CID on Tuesday submitted a chargesheet in connection with the murder of Rajib Das, the teenager who was stabbed while trying to save his sister from a group of drunks in Barasat in February.
Mithun Das, 23, Monojit Biswas, 22 and Biswanath Chatterjee, 25, who had been identified by Rajib’s 22-year-old sister, Rinku, were charged with murder and molestation and under the Arms Act.
Around 11pm on February 14, 16-year-old Rajib had been stabbed to death when he tried to prevent three youths from molesting his sister.
“We mentioned in the chargesheet how the three committed the crime,” said Anuj Sharma, the special inspector-general of the CID, after the charges were filed in Barasat court. “It was Mithun who stabbed Rajib and his two associates sprinkled liquor on Rinku.” If proved guilty of murder, the trio could face death.
“All three should be hanged,” said Rinku on Tuesday evening. “I lost my brother because of them. All of them are equally guilty.”
The CID, however, dropped the name of Chandan Roy, a local youth who was the first to be arrested in connection with the case. “We have not found anything to link him with the crime. So we have not mentioned him in the chargesheet,” said an officer of the CID’s homicide wing.
The CID gave a blow-by-blow account of what exactly happened on that fateful night.
“We mentioned how the trio led us to the spots where they had kept the knife that was used to stab Rajib, and hidden firearms,” said a CID officer.
