| Snapshots of tribal culture |
|
Travelling from faraway UK to the heart of remote tribal villages of Bengal and Orissa, photographers Ruth Dillon and Jonathan Tooze have captured moments that reflect and reveal the essence of the life, art and culture of the people of these regions. Photofinish: Capturing the journey of Bangla folk offers a remarkable testimony to the truth that tribal culture and art forms in this part of the country are certainly alive and well. Part of an international tour commissioned by banglanatak dot com, the photographs present an interesting mix of colour and monochrome portraits, each expressing a different facet of local cultural heritage, such as Baul Fakiri, Patachitra and Chhau dance. Besides, there are simple yet striking images of tribal women and children, rustic environs and various local rituals and festivals.
Event: An exhibition of photographs by Ruth Dillon and Jonathan Tooze When: Till April 14; 11am - 7pm Where: Studio21, 17L Dover Terrace
