Census report

Kohima, April 6: Nagaland Governor Nikhil Kumar will release the provisional population totals of Nagaland Census 2011 at the Heritage complex in Kohima tomorrow.

Silver jubilee

Kohima: The Phom Union, Kohima, celebrated its silver jubilee on Wednesday at Heritage Bamboo Hall, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, with home minister Imkong L. Imchen as the chief guest.

Mishap

Dhubri: Two persons — Joy Kanta Rabha, 17, and Dibakar Rabha, 19— died on spot when a speeding Tata Sumo of RPSF collided with a bike on NH 37 at Bolbala under Agia police station of Goalpara district on Wednesday.

Party clash

Nagaon: Eight persons were injured at Aambagan in two separate incidents of clashes between Congress and AGP workers on Wednesday evening.

Aid granted

Guwahati: The ministry of rural development on Wednesday released grant-in-aid worth Rs 5.85 crore to Tripura under total sanitation campaign in 2010-11.

Affidavit analysis

April 6: An analysis of affidavits of the 395 candidates contesting the second phase of elections, by Assam Election Watch about their educational qualifications revealed that 25 candidates were Class VIII pass while 65 were only Class X pass. The study found that 57 candidates were Class XII pass, 123 were graduates, 64 post graduates, 38 graduate professionals and seven possessed doctorate degrees. There are no illiterate candidates contesting in the second phase.

Stranded

Hundreds of commuters from Guwahati to Shillong along the Road were left stranded at Khanapara here on Wednesday morning as the tourist cabs they travelled in were requisitioned by the election authorities for the second phase polling on April 11. Police said the vehicles were supposed to report for election duty by Wednesday morning and were instead plying on their regular route.

Kohima: Talent search badminton coaching camps are scheduled to be held at Mokokchung, Dimapur and Phek from April 11-30, 2011. The camps are open to players below 10 years for both boys and girls.

Ganja seized

Jorhat: Police recovered 3,700kg of ganja from a coal-laden truck at Numaligarh on the NH 37 in Golaghat district on Wednesday. The crew members of the truck has been detained.
