Property tax
The owners of buildings and land in New Town will have to pay an annual property tax — between six and 20 per cent of the annual value of the property — once a gazette notification is issued. A bill authorising the New Town Calcutta Development Authority to collect the tax was passed in the Assembly on Wednesday.

A unit of National Services Scheme was inaugurated at South Calcutta Law College on Tuesday by Nitish Biswas, the deputy registrar of Calcutta University.
HC order
Justice Jayanta Biswas of Calcutta High Court ordered Krishnendu De, 42, and his wife to visit and offer

to his mother every day. De had moved court after his mother snapped his electricity connection. “If your mother is satisfied with you and your wife, I will hear your case in April,” the judge said. Krishnendu and his wife live in the same house in Ghola, North 24-Parganas, as his mother, who owns the building.
Fuel seized
Police seized 12,000 litres each of aviation fuel, diesel and kerosene from a hideout near the IOC’s depot in Mourigram on Wednesday. Three men were arrested.

A Krishnachura tree fell on the road at EE block in Salt Lake on Wednesday night. An autorickshaw was damaged but no one was injured.
