Much-needed win for Kangchup Road women

Women’s soccer

Imphal, March 21: Kangchup Road Youth Physical Sports Association put up a brave front beating Manipur Police Sports Club by a solitary goal today in the AMFA Senior Women’s Football League for BM Singh Trophy 2010-11 at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.

The win brings a huge respite to Kangchup Road Youth Physical Sports Association as they needed a win to stay in the contest after their solitary-goal loss at the hand of Youth Welfare Club, Langthabal, earlier in the competition. The Kangchup Road team with plenty of young players kept a firm grip on the match. The much older policewomen had a hard time penetrating their rivals’ defence.

Despite their dominance in the game, the Kangchup Road Youth team failed to break the deadlock and the first half ended goalless. The tempo shot up in the later part of the game as Kangchup Road fired on all cylinders with a barrage of attacks.

The break came in the 64th minute for Kangchup Road Youth Physical Sports Association from a short throw in by O. Roshni Devi to Th. Keinyakumari Devi, who tapped the ball and sent a lofted shot to the goal. It beat the police custodian.

The Manipur Police team found themselves at the receiving end and K. Promila Devi almost conceded a goal while trying to head away a corner kick.

A foul by Kangchup Road player Syed Buckshera injured policewoman Sakhitombi Devi in the second half.

The league standing has Kangcup Road Youth Physical Sports Association, Manipur Police Sports Club and Youth Welfare Club with three points each.

Eastern Sporting Union have three points and are yet to play their second match. Naharol Yaipha Thourang Club have lost their first match.
