Shillong, March 13: Meghalaya Police today defeated National Rural Health Mission by 50 runs in the final of the 2nd Corporate-cum-Office Cricket Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association in collaboration with the Frontier Chamber of Commerce at Polo Ground here.
After winning the toss, the policemen elected to bat but lost early wickets, and at one stage they were languishing at 35 runs for five wickets.
However, a late order resurgence helped them reach 112 for 7 in 20 overs. Kumar Sewa scored 34 off 41 balls while Mawlynnai was the most economical bowler with one for 10 runs from four overs. In reply, NRHM started out on a disastrous note losing their most dependable batsman Barry Rymbai for nought. They lost wickets in quick succession and were bundled out for just 62 runs in 17.4 overs.
The Man of the Match award went to Kumar Sewa who walked away with Rs 1,000, while the Man of the Series award of Rs 2,000 went to Barry Rymbai of NRHM.
The winners were presented with Rs 10,000 while the runners-up walked away with Rs 6,000.
P.D. Chowkani, the president of the Frontier Chamber of Commerce, N. Bhattacharjee, the secretary of the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA), and others gave away the prizes.
