Name: Varun Dhawan

Family tree: Younger son of director David Dhawan.

Debut vehicle: Student of the Year, Karan Johar’s directorial project after My Name Is Khan. Karan’s Dharma Productions is teaming up with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies to produce the film.

Backstory: While it was expected that Varun will debut in one of his father’s comedies, the Dhawans wanted a classier launch. And who better than KJo, with whom Varun has worked as the Second Unit Director in My Name Is Khan.

Groom time: Varun had supposedly impressed Karan and Shah Rukh during the making of the US-based movie.

Industry idol: No-brainer! Kkkkkhan.

Psst: Even before their first scene has been canned — the Student of the Year production gets underway in summer — Varun and his co-star Alia Bhatt are an item, swinging between “just friends” and “more than just friends”.

Name: Alia Bhatt

Family tree: Daughter of director Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan.

Debut vehicle: Student of the Year, KJo’s campus movie.

Backstory: Mahesh Bhatt was planning a movie for his daughter under his banner Visshesh Films, but better judgement prevailed. Now Alia need not worry about a controversial start.

Groom time: The Bhatt girl had faced the camera in a bit role as a child artiste in Tanuja Chandra’s 1999 film Sangharsh, starring Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta.

Industry idols: The many artistes in the family — father to mom to step-sis Pooja Bhatt to cousin Emraan Hashmi.

Psst: Look left.

Name: Ahana Deol

Family tree: Daughter of Hema Malini and Dharmendra; Esha’s li’ sis.

Debut vehicle: Ahana was to debut in Vikramaditya Udaan Motwane’s next venture Muqablo. The film about a dysfunctional Sindhi family was to be co-produced by Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap. Now Muqablo is going through more script changes and so Ahana maybe unveiled in Aparna Sen’s Hindi project, opposite Prateik Babbar. This is Sen’s modern-day interpretation of the timeless Romeo-Juliet story, to be produced by Hema herself.

Backstory: Until now, Ahana was reluctant to do films and that had more to do with the fact that Papa Dharam didn’t want his daughters under the arclights. There was talk about Ahana turning director, but at the behest of close friends Vikramaditya and his wife, she has had a change of heart. And even though her acting career is yet to take off, Ma Hema may still produce the script she’s written.

Groom time: Ahana is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She has turned down several film offers in the past, including one by Dev Anand (but we won’t really call that one a costly mistake). Last year, Ahana had also worked as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the Hrithik-Aishwarya-starrer Guzaarish.

Industry idol: She’s not spoilt for choice, it’s all in the family.

Psst: Ahana is said to have introduced her boyfriend, former veejay Aditya Roy Kapur, to Bhansali for the role of the youngster who goes to Hrithik to learn magic in Guzaarish.

Name: Tanuj Virwani

Family tree: Son of Rati Agnihotri and her businessman-architect husband Anil Virwani.

Debut vehicle: Joe Rajan’s film, Luv U Soniyo, produced by Odyssey Corporation along with Harvey India Productions. Sounds a little ho-hum but Miss India International 2010 winner Neha Hinge has been signed on to star opposite Tanuj in the film.

Backstory: Tanuj had previously signed a Ravi Chopra film called Purani Jeans opposite Brazilian model Giselli Monteiro (Saif’s Lake Market love in Love Aaj Kal), but that is shelved for now.

Groom time: Rati’s beta has worked as an assistant director in the Aftab Shivdasani-produced Aao Wish Karein and Ken Ghosh’s Chance Pe Dance. He has taken lessons at Kishore Namit Kapoor’s acting school and also written-directed-edited three short films, besides playing the lead, of course.

Industry idol: Varun says he has learnt discipline from watching Shahid Kapoor during the making of Chance Pe Dance. Hmmm.

Psst: Said to be a ladies’ man. His Facebook album will tell you why.

Name: Narmmadaa Ahuja

Family tree: Daughter of Govinda.

Debut vehicle: Narmmadaa is making her debut with a romantic comedy which “she can’t speak of”. But word is that the script has been finalised and the film is hitting the floors soon. The production house is supposedly one “which is coming back after a gap of a few years”. And neither is her co-star a newcomer. So wait and watch!

Backstory: Narmmadaa had turned heads way back in 2007 on the IIFA red carpet where she appeared in Salman Khan’s arms. We haven’t seen much of her since.

Groom time: While Govinda was all Virar, Narmmadaa has learnt the ropes of acting at the London Film Institute, no less. And she intends to go the Kareena way — attain a size zero look that is, for her big Bolly break.

Industry idol: Salman Khan, and not her dad. Chhi chhi!

Psst: The Narmmadaa-Sallu red carpet entry had set a lot of tongues wagging and made Kat lose her cool, but Govinda’s daughter claims she “has never had an affair!”

Name: Arjun Kapoor

Family tree: Son of producer Boney Kapoor and his first wife Mona. Nephew of Anil and Sanjay Kapoor. Cousin of Sonam Kapoor.

Debut vehicle: Arjun is being launched by Yash Raj Films, not the family production house. His debut had earlier been planned to coincide with the making of Mr India 2, but neither of the two projects took off.

Backstory: Arjun’s launchpad would be announced sometime later this year. A three-film contract with Yash Raj is the buzz in B-town.

Groom time: Arjun has been working in his father’s projects. He has been an executive producer in Milenge Milenge, Wanted and No Entry, apart from assisting Nikhil Advani in both Kal Ho Naa Ho and Salaam-e-Ishq. With enough behind-the-camera expertise, Arjun is now ready for some on-screen jalwa.

Industry idol: Salman Khan has been helping him get a fit and macho body in his personal gym.

Psst: Arjun was dating Salman’s sister Arpita, but not anymore. He is still in the good books of Sallu.

Name: Parineeti Chopra

Family tree: A cousin of Priyanka Chopra.

Debut vehicle: Maneesh Sharma’s romantic comedy Ladies V/S Ricky Bahl. Anushka Sharma is the leading lady, opposite Ranveer Singh, but Parineeti has an “important” role.

Backstory: The girl has been trying to get a break for quite some time and despite the presence of Piggychops in her life, it hasn’t been easy going. Recently, however, the girl has tweeted: “I am so so soooo excited to be signing three films with YRF, and hope all goes well with me. :)”

Groom time: After getting a degree in international business, finance and economics from Manchester Business School, Parineeti worked at Morgan Stanley and Procter & Gamble in the UK. On her return to India, she joined Yash Raj Films as marketing and PR consultant. She even handled her famous cousin’s PR for Pyaar Impossible. Guess that didn’t help!

Industry idol: She looks up to, who else but, her famous cuz.

Psst: She claims she is missing her “life in England, the perfect weather, the walks by the ocean, absolute silence and beautiful friends.” Friends? Huh!

Name: Isabelle Kaif

Family tree: Younger sister of Katrina Kaif.

Debut vehicle: Nothing official yet but everyone from Farah Khan to David Dhawan wants a bit of this phoren babe.

Backstory: One of the six sisters of Katrina, Isabelle is the only one who’s followed cool Kat all the way to Mumbai from the UK and is keen on slipping into her stilettos.

Groom time: Isabelle has studied acting at Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York, the same school which some of the biggest Hollywood names and our very own Ranbir Kapoor have attended.

Industry idol: Katrina has reportedly taken charge of grooming li’ sis.

Psst: She hangs out with the who’s who of B-town, including sis’s ex Salman and Akshay Kumar. But no link-ups yet for the Kaif girl.
