Snow rescue
Srinagar, Feb. 23 (PTI): At least 135 stranded passengers, including over a dozen patients, were airlifted yesterday by IAF choppers from snow-bound Gurez and Karnah in north Kashmir, an official spokesperson said.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has sought the help of the IAF to airlift stranded passengers from snow-hit areas.
Pilot strike
New Delhi (PTI): The Indian Commercial Pilots Association, representing the erstwhile Indian Airlines, has threatened to go on strike from March 9. The move follows the Air India managements failure to address their grievances, which include wage parity and better working conditions. The association has around 800 non-executive pilots under its umbrella.
Trader dead
New Delhi (PTI): A businessman, who allegedly duped more than 1,000 people of crores of rupees, was found dead under mysterious circumstances outside his office on Wednesday. Police said that he jumped from the building.
BPL census
New Delhi (PTI): A committee set up to suggest a formula for identifying BPL families is likely to submit its report by May, officials said. The committee is currently analysing results of a pilot socio-economic survey and a participatory rural appraisal exercise to finalise the methodology.
Kashmir team
Jammu (PTI): The Centres interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir will submit a document containing the contours of a political settlement of the Kashmir issue within two weeks. The panel, headed by journalist Dileep Padgaonkar, declared this after its fifth visit to the state.
Truck mishap
Midnapore: Six persons were killed when a log-laden truck overturned on a Jhargram road on Wednesday. As the truck, which was trying to avoid a cyclist, toppled, the ropes binding the logs came loose and they crushed three labourers who had fallen off the truck and three pedestrians.
