Kerala wins women’s 500m team

Dhanbad, Feb. 23: Kerala clinched the 500m women’s four-member kayaking team event at Maithon today, clocking 122.02 seconds ahead of Manipur and Andaman and Nicobar.

The four winning members, Minimol, Silpimol, Simimol and Lipimol, won comfortably, leaving the runners-up couple of seconds behind.

Manipur, comprising Nanao Devi, Sushila Devi Kojengbam, Boby Devi L. and Tama Devi W., completed the race in 124.65 seconds, while Srimati Bishnoi, Sandhya Kispota, Abhimanjula Minj and Namita Tirkey combined to win the bronze for Andaman clocking 126.64 seconds.

Earlier, four preliminary round matches of men’s canoe polo event were held, while two women’s rounds in the same event was cancelled due to strong winds.

In the first preliminary match of the men’s event, Jammu and Kashmir defeated Assam by 5-0, while Madhya Pradesh beat Jharkhand by a margin of 5-1.The remaining kayaking-canoeing matches will be held tomorrow.
