Bhubaneswar, Feb. 22: School buildings across the state are all set to don a fresh peach look.
The school and mass education department, as part of its school beautification drive, has decided to paint “all the schools peach”.
A proposal in this regard was being worked on, informed a senior official in the department.” The project will be implemented under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan.
The primary aim of the drive will be to make the schools look more attractive. This would not only draw students towards the institution but also create a healthy environment for studies, the official said.
In the first phase of the drive, all the schools will be painted with a uniform colour. Of the several colours proposed, peach has been selected as the colour to be used for painting the school building. The same colour will be used for the boundary walls, which will also have a dab of terracotta colour.
The name of the school will be written at the gate with letters of a defined font and size. It has been proposed that the name board will have terracotta as its base colour and letters in white. Those schools that have no boundary walls will have a “green boundary” or a wall of trees.
As per the plan, each school will have a small garden on one side and a playground on the other. The state’s map will be drawn on the wall of the school, highlighting that particular district in which the school is located. A scale will be drawn on the school wall so that students can measure their height.
The headmaster’s chamber is also all set for a revamp. At the entrance of the school, there will be an idea box where students and parents can drop in suggestions for the benefit of students.
A board displaying paintings and creative write-ups by students will also be on display. Inside the classrooms, there will be a space containing interesting books for students, which they can read during leisure hours.
Similarly, there will an additional black board for student from Class I to III inside the classroom where they can write and practice while the teacher teaches. For senior classes, there will be a performance board displaying the name of the student who has the best performance of the week.
At the entrance, there will be a school information board displaying the details of the school. This board will feature important details such as the name of the headmaster, number of students and boy-girl ratio.
Similarly, there will be another board displaying the grants received by the school under various heads. Yet another board will have the names of student representatives of the school. The department plans to finalise the proposal and implement it by August end.
