Award for Mamoni

Guwahati,Feb. 21: The Assam government will honour littérateur Mamoni Roisom Goswami with the Asom Ratna Award for the year 2010, cultural minister Bharat Chandra Narah said today. “The Azan Pir Award, Chandraprabha Saikiani Award and Amalprabha Das Award for the year 2008 will be given to littérateur Imran Shah, Kamal Kumari Barua and singer Lakhyahira Das respectively,” said Narah. The government has instituted five news awards to honour people in different fields, he added.

Govt aid

Guwahati: Chief minister Tarun Gogoi handed over first instalment of the financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to Sanskrit tols and khariji madarsas and Rs 7 lakh as first instalment to provincialised madarsas under the chief minister’s special scheme at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. Gogoi gave away two sets of uniforms to schoolchildren from Classes I to VII. He also gave away computers to five students’ unions of colleges.

Jorhat: Seven CRPF personnel were awarded the DG’s commendation disc and roll on Monday by CRPF inspector-general (operations) M.P. Nathanael at Rowriah.
