Hambantota: The entire subcontinent may be considered a batting paradise, but Sri Lankan batsman Thilan Samaraweera says the 300-plus scores in the World Cup would be seen mostly in India.

Co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the World Cup is expected to be dominated by batsmen.

But Samaraweera said his country will not see many big scores because tracks here are different from India.

“Lots of people talk about 300-plus totals, but that could happen in India because the wickets there are flat and the grounds are small,” Samaraweera said.

“In Sri Lanka, we have long boundaries and it would be difficult to post 300-plus totals here,” he added.

Sri Lanka are in Group ‘A’, which also comprises Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Canada, Kenya and Zimbabwe.

Samaraweera said Shahid Afridi's men are a fearsome lot given their unpredictability.

“I think Pakistan are really dark horses who can change the game any time. They have the firepower,” Samaraweera said.

Sri Lanka will start their campaign by taking on Canada here on Sunday.

Asked to pick his favourites, the 34-year-old batsman said Australia would be quite a handful despite their recent slide. “Australia have won the tournament three times in a row and they can still do lot of things,” he said.
