Bhubaneswar, Feb. 16: Cini Mohanty, the estranged wife of former Orissa Ranji captain Pravanjan Mallick, today alleged that the family members of the cricketer were threatening her.
Pravanjan was arrested on February 14 on charges of torturing Cini. The hearing of his bail plea is expected to come up tomorrow in the district and sessions court here.
Cini, who visited Mahila police station today, told mediapersons that she had told the police about Pravanjan’s family issuing her a threat. She said Manoranjan Mallick, her husband’s brother, had threatened her on the premises of the city court. “On the court premises he said that my husband’s family would teach me a lesson,” alleged Cini.
While Cini is yet to file a written complaint in this regard, police officials at Mahila police station denied that she had even told them about the threat.
Santosh Mohanty, brother-in-law of Pravanjan, however, asserted that the family had issued no threats to Cini. “It is she who has been trying to harass us,” he alleged.
Cini had lodged a complaint with the Mahila police against her husband Pravanjan Mallick, alleging torture and an attempt to kill her on February 14.
Pravanjan was produced in the sub-divisional judicial magistrate court, which rejected his bail plea. The cricketer’s lawyer, Rajendra Khuntia then moved a bail petition in the district and sessions court.
Reacting to reports that she had signed a compromise petition, Cini said she had only signed a document which would help her husband procure bail. Santosh alleged that Pravanjan and Cini had filed a mutual divorce petition in 2009, which was rejected because she had not cooperated. In 2010, Pravanjan filed another divorce petition, which is pending in court.
